Two Sides to Every Coin

Today in marketing management we were talking about a book called No Logo: No Space No Choice No Jobs by Naomi Klein. In which she apparently describes global brands to:
  • exploit third-world workers
  • increase unemployment
  • reduce domestic wages
  • erode workers' rights
  • censor media
  • debase local cultures
Which brings up a significant point. There are two sides to every story. We all must try and see both sides of an argument and rationally try to interpret it based upon our own beliefs. However, this is so much easier said than done. Very often, people only see things in one light. This is wrong. Take for example child labor. I am not condoning it in any way but just an anecdote.
What if that child, by going to work, is providing his family with food. Would you rather the family starve? Should the child resort to violence to feed his family? No, he should work. What if the company he is working for is providing housing, education and contributing in other beneficial ways to the community? Should he not work? Would the community have been better off not giving that opportunity? Some of you will argue yes. You are entitled to your opinion. Just know that there's always more than one viewpoint. Take both sides and filter them for yourself to arrive at an even greater truth.
