With all the newly uprooted information surrounding Major League Baseball players and the use of illegal steroids, now is a good time to bring up the subject. Why not? All the major sports news networks are talking about it. With the recent announcement that Barry Bonds' 2003 urine sample tested positive for roids, and a newer report involving Alex Rodriguez of those nasty Yanks, steroids are again at the forefront. On an aside, why are those being tested now? Why weren't these guys caught five years ago?
Anyway, that is not what this post is about. I wanted to talk about my personal view on steroids. To me, I really don't care whether people choose to use steroids or not. After all, they're adults. If these choose to do illegal drugs, it's their choice. The justice system will deal with it, I don't have to concern myself.
Personally, though, the thought of using steroids has come in and out of my mind over the years. Starting in the late years of high school. I have always known guys that have used, and the great physical results that have come out of it. I have done research on the different types of steroids and their effects, positive and negative. I like the idea of a quick fix, a "magic" pill of sorts.
However, when I really thought about it, people do steroids for other people. Not including professional athletes, who may use just to be able to sustain the level of play necessary to make an enormous paycheck. I am talking about the average Joe. In the end, you're using to impress other people. To have rock hard abs and amazing biceps so you attract a gorgeous woman. So that other, smaller, weaker, guys in the gym look on in admiration of your physique. That's all well and fine, but it isn't for me. In the end you're putting your health in jeopardy, which is the exact opposite reason to why you should work out and lift weights. If its the personal recognition you are seeking, that's cool too I suppose, but do yourself a favor and do it naturally, or at least with regular vitamins and supplements. You will find that the extra hard work will be worth it. You will be more proud of your accomplishments, and will be able to look in the mirror and be proud of the body that YOU built. Not the needle.
Do it for yourself, not for others. Maintain a regular exercise and establish a clean diet with a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables. Preferably raw. As Russ Simmons would say, "DO YOU", and do it for you! Good luck.
