The earthquake that struck Haiti and killed more than 250k people was quite a disaster. Since the quake, it was nice to see the outpouring of support from the world and especially the United States. If you would like to donate to the cause you can go here, which is one option of many.
However, what kind of rubs me the wrong way is that Haiti was struggling long before this disaster hit. Why does it take a disaster for people to want to help?
Also, there are many people here in our own country who could use aid, whether it be financial or otherwise, but there is nowhere for them to turn. An example would be the fact that many people are adopting Haitian orphans. That's terrific, as it gives them a chance at a much better life. BUT...how many American kids are in foster care right now? What's wrong with adopting one of them?
In the end, I cannot hate on people wanting to make the world a better place. But seriously, why does it take a disaster for people to open their eyes?
