The Idea for Foursquare was Stolen!

Some would credit Dennis Crowley and Naveen Selvadurai as being the two co-founders of Foursquare (the website that allows you to “check-in” at places nationwide).  This may be true, but their idea was NOT original.  It was obviously lifted from another source!  They stole the idea!  But from whom?

As I was taking an afternoon stroll the other day, it dawned on me.  A woman was walking her dog and as they rounded the corner of a jewelry store, Rover lifted his hind leg and “checked-in” right there on the side of the building.  Wouldn’t ya know it -- canines have been playing foursquare all along!  That’s where the real credit is due!

Disclaimer:  Obviously this is a joke.  I don’t see a lawsuit from a coalition of angry puppies ever ending up on the desk at the legal department of Foursquare.  I’m also pretty sure this isn’t even where the idea came from, but it was an interesting observation.

Maybe we need to start looking at the animal kingdom for start up ideas!
